August Paintings

Bus into Durham - bought 3 canvases at the Works and pens at Poundland and draw the Corn Mill over lunch. Watercolour added later. I surprised the watercolour -White Knights- took to the canvas.

Watercolour clematis with demonstrator Christine Cave from Washington (watercolour not her first choice of mediums). Not the right colour mix for white in shadow for flowers - ultramarine and burnt sienna- I used cobalt and rose madder - much warmer.

Watercolour painted while Peter Robbins did acrylic of Beadnell looking across the harbour showing the boats.

Seaside Town

Workshop with Carrie Dennison from Stanley doing lino cut. Realised half way through that the image should be reversed so Staithes became a Seaside Town. Printed on prewashed watercolour paper.  Did another at home with the image reversed printed on plain paper.

Watercolour demo at Chester-le-Street Arts Society

White Knight watercolour paints on bockingford  200 lb not paper textured with cling film and salt then black lines added and then dark added.

Still catching up- Tissue on black Acrylic and watercolours

Fishing village with newsprint and coloured tissue paper.

Tissue on canvas board 20 x 16 inches with the actual print of the sketch stuck on the board. Acrylic paint used to blend the tissue. Mount and frame from Picasa software free from Google.

Lots of swan about after quite a few died over the summer due to lead poisoning.

Try acrylics again

Port Isaac in acrylics

Gesso over an old painting then drawn in pencil and reinforced some lines with the edge of a compressed charcoal block. Sealed with spray.

Painting the white then added the colour using scarlet, ultramarine and lemon yellow using a flat nylon brush. Colours added to sponge roller and lightly tinged the whites. I like the top but not the bottom of the painting.

Used up the remaining paint on a small canvas and added some burnt sienna and raw sienna for a pond with tree painting. Looks OK across the room but not close in.

Mevagissey Harbour

Mixed media - acrylic texture overall wash using a 2 inch foam roller with lemon yellow and crimson then  zinc white added to the upper half again with a roller. Drawing with pencil and black pen. Alcohol pens used to soften the pen and pencil lines and to block in around the boats. White pen used for the highlights.
Picture show the lookout tower at Mevagissey Harbour in Cornwall.

Initial wash with first pencil sketch this was erased then white added.

Earlier watercolour painting using 1/2 inch flat synthetic brush for blocking in - Sold at the Coquetdale Art Gallery in Rothury.

Polperro painting

Black lines and watercolour started Wednesday at CAS and completed this morning and uploaded to Artfinder.

Started drawing of St Ives Cornwall on 20 x 16 inch canvas board of an old painting covered with gesso. Black pen and  black and burnt sienna inks added using a piece of mount card.

More work latter on.

Looks fine from a distance but close in, it looks awful. Needs more work on the whole painting and some people and gulls to be added.

Wed 11/12/13 started picture of Portloe Cornwall on 20x16 canvas with random pieces of torn tissue pasted on the canvas with PVA glue . Light blue at the top and heavier colour at the bottom to give recession. Sketch drawn with black and blue sharpies.

Acrylic paint was then added to the painting  transparently to let the tissue show through or opaquely

to hidden the tissue and give an under glow.

Adjusted the balcony and the wall behind the hotel after looking at the photo with gesso.

Polperro harbour in acrylics 20x16 in on canvas -acrylic blocking in then black sharpie, acrylic detail then clear tissue added to then background.
