Subject for Chester-Le-Street workshop starting 8 Jan 2014 is Sandend on the Moray Firth in Scotland. A quaint fishing village with gable ends facing the sea, washing hanging out on the harbour and old smoke houses.

Sketches done over Xmas

Acrylic painting on 20 x 16 stretched canvas - drawing in pencil then soluble ink.

First wash softened the ink mark so had to be painted downwards so no ink went into the sky.

This shows the design on the cottages with smaller granite pieces placed between the larger granite sets and the plaster highlighted. This called 'Cherry Cocking' and can be found all along the Moray coast.

Wed 11/12/13 started picture of Portloe Cornwall on 20x16 canvas with random pieces of torn tissue pasted on the canvas with PVA glue . Light blue at the top and heavier colour at the bottom to give recession. Sketch drawn with black and blue sharpies.

Acrylic paint was then added to the painting  transparently to let the tissue show through or opaquely

to hidden the tissue and give an under glow.

Adjusted the balcony and the wall behind the hotel after looking at the photo with gesso.

Deerness Art Group Sunday 8/12 started acrylic painting on 20 x 16 canvas of view of Blanchland Northumberland looking north from the bridge over the Shildon Beck

 
Painted from pencil sketch in Book 48/18

Completed painting of Whitley Bay -added gesso to the foreground and covered with coloured tissue paper, reworked the sky to eliminate the hard edges and added clear tissue to the background.

Wed 28/11 started picture of Spanish City at Whitley Bay Northumberland based on this sketch in my hardback book No. 45.

In the sketch I have moved the two churches closer to the dome, the photo was taken from St. Mary's Lighthouse.
On a 20 x 16 inch canvas I stuck random torn pieces of tissue paper with colours on the warm side all over the canvas and added some acrylic colour to the buildings.

Thursday added some line work with black and coloured Sharpies - photo to follow.

More work on Blanchland collage and acrylic- its as far as I'm going to take it.
