Weeks holiday in Kirkcudbright

Saturday.
126 miles from home. Walked around town while waiting to collect the keys for Nathenial's  Cottage at 3.00 pm from the Selkirk Hotel.

Sunday
Walked from the cottage south around St Mary's Isle (peninsula) and back 5.3 miles. Not recommended - Poor views and difficult to get to final southerly point with little or no path and lots of brambles.

Monday
Drove to Dhoon beach and walked north as far as possible to Nun Mill and returned to the car for lunch- some drizzle. On to Brighouse and walked along the bay to Rockvale Cottage. Then onto Gatehouse of Fleet and a walk around the town.

Tuesday
Walked to the play ground above the town with good views to the harbour. Then into town to Tolbooth art centre where two artists where hanging their work and around the marina and onto the Harbour Cottage Gallery where Anne-Marie Atcheson was exhibiting her work and demonstrating her painting technique. She was exhibiting with Evelyn Mackintosh. 2.3 miles

Wednesday
Morning walk up the mill race to the graveyard and across to the play area - 1.6 miles. Afternoon walk along the River Dee to Tongland and return along the same route after a loop around the power station. 5.0 miles

Thursday
Drove to Kippford, parked at the toilets and walked south to the end of the village and return . Too many trees on the footpath to Rockcliffe so we drove around and walked along the short search of beach - the tide was out.
Called in to Palnackie (nice name) but the car park at waters edge had been developed. Took 3 photos and left.

Friday
Short walk around Kirkcudbright revisited the Tolbooth Galley and The White House Gallery- very profession with an excellent display.

August Paintings

Bus into Durham - bought 3 canvases at the Works and pens at Poundland and draw the Corn Mill over lunch. Watercolour added later. I surprised the watercolour -White Knights- took to the canvas.

Collage of Swing Bridge and Newcastle on stretched canvas- work in progress.

Collage of Portloe in Cornwall on paper

Watercolour clematis with demonstrator Christine Cave from Washington (watercolour not her first choice of mediums). Not the right colour mix for white in shadow for flowers - ultramarine and burnt sienna- I used cobalt and rose madder - much warmer.

Watercolour of the Drongs in Shetlands

Watercolour painted while Peter Robbins did acrylic of Beadnell looking across the harbour showing the boats.

Seaside Town
Workshop with Carrie Dennison from Stanley doing lino cut. Realised half way through that the image should be reversed so Staithes became a Seaside Town. Printed on prewashed watercolour paper.  Did another at home with the image reversed printed on plain paper.
