Drawings during the lockdown

Staithes composite drawing is taken from individual photos square on to each building and being such a narrow street I could not see the roof lines. This information I gleaned from photos taken from high points around the village. Also useful was Google street view who had a backpack camera walk through the village as part of the Cleveland Way. This is in an A2 Sketchbook which I cut in half lengthways.

Sketching in Durham

Drawing in A5 sketch book ( not my normal A4 ) resulted in me running out of space at the top and I had to condense the space between the Cathedral and the Fulling Mill.
Started in pencil then sepia drawing pen.

An artist was painting at the end of walkway of launching the boats for the students practising rowing. I recognised him as Suncage ( no real name given on his web page ) who encourages passers-bye to make their mark . I made mind as a horizontal splatter in magenta.

Did a second 3 minute sketch of the Corn Mill from the other side of the river.
0.5 mm pentel pencil.

Found my way again

20 x 16 canvas Elvet Bridge in Durham City

Started with random lines with blocks of burnt sienna and yellow ink.
Image added not following drawn lines with black waterproof pen .
Texture added with a small roller with flat elastic bands covered in burnt sienna ink to give random marks in the foreground, the houses and the tree behind the building.
Ink added with my finger under the arches and soften by pulling down.
Some of the lines reinforced with a thicker black pen.
Happy with the result and enjoyed painting it but I think it needs some transparent coloured washes which will probably ruin it but its worth a try.

Wednesday Art Club at Chester le Street

Nine members present - things are looking up!

Started acrylic ink painting of Church Street Staithes from a view taken from the Nab on Cowbar nature reserve on a 20 x 16 canvas board from Jacksons Art Supplies which worked out at £2.60 each when bought in packs of ten.

Started with simple pencil drawing  then fine black Pentel Green Label pen to define the shapes.
Acrylic ink applied using a piece of mount card. Colours - yellow, burnt sienna and blue.
.
I had left my bottle of black acrylic ink slightly open in my briefcase from Sunday so everything
was stained black but most had been absorbed by the towel I keep in there. On returning home I found I had left black spots on the hall carpet and the driveway-Oops.

May leave it like this or added more colour to the buildings.
